About
Floppy Nuts is my little diary of my attempt to start a professional poker career with nothing more than $50, plus the desire to learn, and excel.
I choose to keep my player account name to myself (for the time being). I play exclusively on Poker Stars, and started playing mainly single table “Sit N Go” tournaments mixed with a few large-field multi-table tournaments. I enjoyed the direct competition and eliminations in these game formats for a while, but in the end it proved to be too stressful. Now I’ve turned my sites to cash games and that seems to be where I’m staying.
My goal as a “professional” player is simply to be able to live comfortably and pay my family’s bills using income generated by playing poker online. If I should become a world champion, wealthy beyond my dreams, and rock star famous…(or any of the three)…that would be nice too. I’d consider that a lucky bonus though.
I have been self-employed, working on the internet, for several years. I am well accustomed to sitting at home on my computer all day, trying to make money. With some savings from past work, some automation and help with current work, and my wife’s blessings, I am able to play pretty much whenever I want to. I try to maintain 6-8 hours per day of actual playing time, 5 days per week. On weekends and off hours, I’m usually reading a book, a forum, a blog, or something else having to do with poker.
I originally started playing just for fun, and for free. To challenge myself I decided I’d deposit $50, and no more, ever. At first I was just thinking I wanted to see how long I would be able to play before I ran out of money. But over several months, and several thousands of hands of poker, I realized I was not running out of money, I was making more money. That got the fire lit. Now that original challenge has been changed from seeing how long $50 could last, to seeing how much $50 can grow.
